Today the United States Senate is expected to approve the borrowing of nearly a trillion dollars which they don’t have. The United States taxpayers will eventually have to pay that money back with interest. Today’s Monday Morning Dobro is a Rory Gallagher tribute to that mindset.

Monday Mornin’ Dobro
Chris Whitley makes another appearance:
Danny Boy
One of my favorite songs in the world is Danny Boy. It was my father’s favorite song and I will always remember how beautifully a family friend sang it after his funeral. Today I ran across this version and wanted to share it:
I share this video for two reasons. First, Rafael Moras sings one of the most beautiful versions of “Danny Boy” that I have ever had the pleasure of hearing. His voice and delivery are moving.
The second reason is that during this amazing performance someone, probably a parent, keeps adjusting the camera and completely destroys the impact of the song. Instead of sitting back to enjoy an amazing performance by their son the cameraperson tries to adjust the camera which is distracting and detracts from the performance itself.
It is often difficult for parents to sit back and fully appreciate what their children are doing. But when children do have their special moments we don’t want to be the person that was too busy fiddling with the damn camera to appreciate it.
Monday Morning Dobro
I’m loving my dose of Monday morning dobro.
Happy MLK day!
My new hero, Alfonzo Rachel.
One of my great frustrations in life is that 90% of black* voters consistently vote Democrat despite the fact that many of them are culturally and/or fiscally conservative.
I abhor prejudice of any kind and it is clear that there is cultural prejudice against Republicans. No other reason fully explains why any group of Americans would repeatedly vote in a nearly unanimous block for the same party regardless of the candidate.
Alfonzo Rachel gives conservatives like me some small comfort and for that reason I bet there are some powerful people that want him to shut up. Fortunately Alfonzo has stones the size of bowling balls and is a lot smarter than his critics.
*My disdain for hyphenated- american euphemisms would not allow me to use the term “african-american”.
