Politicians

I found this quote today in a discussion of the Democrat health care bill which is being forced on this country against the overwhelming will of the people. Unfortunately I believe it applies to the vast majority of people that currently hold public office.

Half the harm that is done in this world
Is due to people who want to feel important
They don’t mean to do harm
But the harm does not interest them.
Or they do not see it, or they justify it
Because they are absorbed in the endless struggle
To think well of themselves.

T. S. Eliot

Be a patriot, support NASCAR

Now that U.S. taxpayers own Chrysler and General Motors it is official. NASCAR racing is America’s new national pastime.

I have never been a huge NASCAR fan despite my southern upbringing but I do consider myself a patriotic person. So from now on I vow to support our drivers.

I can’t wait to see Dale Jr. and Jeff Gordon swappin’ paint in these bad boys!

Olympia Snowe says she and Arlen Specter are RINO’s

Noted “moderate” Olympia Snowe accidentally points out that she and Arlen Spector shouldn’t be in the Republican party based on her own proposed litmus test. She quotes Ronald Reagan in her New York Times Op Ed today.

“We should emphasize the things that unite us and make these the only ‘litmus test’ of what constitutes a Republican: our belief in restraining government spending, pro-growth policies, tax reduction, sound national defense, and maximum individual liberty.”

Ms. Snowe and Mr. Specter personally facilitated the monstrosity known as the stimulus package and thus have shown that neither passes what in her own words is the “only ” litmus test for being a Republican. How is that the fault of the Republican party?

Spreadin’ the wealth (as promised)

Saw this article in the AJC this morning: http://tinyurl.com/d32y4y

To summarize, the article says that Georgia might get back $5 billion from the $800 billion stimulus package that President Obama is pushing right now. Seemed bad to me so I ran the numbers and you can judge for yourself.

$800 billion dollars divided by 50 states is $16 billion per state. This number won’t apply to every state but I live in Georgia and as the ninth most populous state I think it is a conservative estimate. So the stimulus package will cost Georgians $16 billion and we might get $5 billion back. Doesn’t sound very stimulating to me!

As a matter of fact it works out to a cost of about $1200 for every man, woman and child in the state of Georgia. So the next time a family in Georgia sits around the dinner table they can add up $1200 dollars a head to see how much our new president expects them to kick in for his stimulus package. Guess that’s what Obama meant by “spread the wealth”.

Rant #1

There has been a guy pimping his blog to me on Twitter and I have tried to help him out by dropping by and commenting every once in a while. Today I give up.

Earlier the blogger posted about the journalist in Iraq that threw his shoes at President Bush. I thought I’d be nice and go by and leave a comment.

So I chimed in, ” Are you sure it wasn’t Keith Olberman? Yes it was a pathetic gesture but no worse than the poo that many monkeys in our own mainstream media have been flinging for years.”

I know it’s nothing special but if I had a great mind or a talent for writing  I’d be getting paid to write. I thought I was doing the guy a favor by reading his blog and putting in my two cents. But then the guy responds, “I don’t believe we should make today’s event into a partisan issue. The point of this entry was to discuss Bush’s legacy.” Well excuuuuuuuuuse me.

I thought the point was that some idiot journalist in Iraq threw his shoes at the President of the United States and that the blogger wanted to know what readers thought about the event. So I took time out of my day to stop by and let him know what I thought. I did it in as few words as possible and even tried to be funny. (I didn’t say I was successful but at least I tried.)

The fact is that I truly believe there are people on television and in the press here in the United States of America that would have thrown a shoe at President Bush if  they thought they could get away with it.  Have you heard Olberman or seen how Helen Thomas acted in the White House press conferences?

Upon closer inspection I don’t even see anything “partisan” in my comment at all. What party is Keith Olberman? He doesn’t even vote!

And for the record I consider myself a conservative. I vote by principles, not party.

Thank you wordpress for allowing me to get this off my chest. I feel much better now.
